SUPREME COURT ASKED PARLIAMENT TO BRING IN SPECIAL LAW AGAINST LYNCHING

The Supreme Court condemned that the recent spate of lynchings as horrendous acts of mobocracy and told the Parliament to make lynching a separate offence. The court made this observation while hearing pleas seeking directions to formulate guidelines to curb vigilantism. The court also passed a slew of directions to be implemented by the States and Central government to ensure that law and order is maintained and people are prevented from taking the law into their hands.
