A lower court in Rajasthan awarded death sentence to a
19-year-old youth for raping a seven-month-old child 73 days ago, making it the
first such sentence in the state under the new amendments to the Criminal Laws
(Rajasthan Amendment) Bill, 2018, the minimum punishment for raping girls below
12 years of age is 14 years in prison, while convicted accused could even be
given the death penalty.
