IPS TRAINEE HELD FOR CHEATING IN UPSC MAIN EXAMS

The Chennai police arrested Safeer Karim, a trainee IPS officer from Tirunelveli after Intelligence Bureau officers caught him cheating in the Union Public Service Commission (Main) Examination at a test centre in Chennai, and the Hyderabad arrested Karim's wife Joicy Joy and the director of the La Excellence IAS academy P Rambabu into custody for helping Karim.

MAN HELD FOR CREATING FAKE PROFILE OF HIS SISTER-IN-LAW

A 35-year-old software professional from Hyderabad was arrested for allegedly creating a fake online profile of his sister-in-law in order. He has disputes with his wife, and in order to humiliate her family members, he created a fake account in name of his sister-in-law.

MINOR OR WOMEN WITH UNSOUND MIND RAPE VICTIMS DEPOSITION NOT MUST IF ALL EVIDENCES PROVE GUILTY: SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court said that a person accused of sexually assaulting a minor or a woman of unsound mind can be convicted without the rape survivor being cross-examined to corroborate her charges if other evidence was sufficient to prove guilt, and quashed an order of the Bombay High Court, which had acquitted the accused because of non-examination of the rape survivor by the trial court and sentenced the accused to seven years' imprisonment for raping a mentally challenged deaf and mute minor girl near Nagpur in 2008.

FOUR IT FIRMS BOOKED FOR DUPING STATE OF BANK

Officials of State Bank of India have lodged a complaint with the Central Bureau of Investigation against four private firms in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam for cheating the bank with fake documents to get loans. Bank officials said that they have registered a case a few days ago with the CBI's Chennai branch against four firms for cheating our bank. The Chennai branch might have forwarded the case to the Vizag CBI unit two days back.

NIGERIAN MAN HELD FOR EXTORTION AFTER DUPING HYDERABAD MAN OF 1.42 LAKH VIA FACEBOOK

AARUSHI MURDER CASE: PARENTS ACQUITTED BY ALLAHABAD HIGH COURT ON BENEFIT OF DOUBT

The Allahabad High Court acquitted the Rajesh and Nupur Talwar, who were in jail on the chargers of killing their teenage daughter Aarushi and their domestic help Hemraj in 2008 due to lack of clinching evidence and the possibility that an outsider could have been committed the crimes. Earlier a special CBI court had in November 2013 convicted the doctor couple for the murders and sentenced them to life imprisonment.

SEX WITH MINOR WIFE IS TO BE CONSIDERED AS RAPE: SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court discarded a 77-year-old law and ruled that sex between a man and his wife below 18 years of age will count as rape and the husband can face up to 10 years' imprisonment under the Indian Penal Code or even a life term under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act of 2012. However the court clarified that it has not touched on the issue of marital rape.

TELANGANA STATE POLICE ARRESTED A MAN FOR POSTING OBSCENE PICTURES OF ACTRESSES

Crime Investigation Department (CID) sleuths of Telangana arrested a B. Com graduate from Bangalore for uploading morphed obscene photographs of Tollywood actresses on his websites. Movie Artistes' Association had lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime police station of CID, alleging that 21 websites and YouTube channels were posting vulgar content about Tollywood actresses.

SERIOUS CRIME CASES CAN’T BE QUASHED EVEN IF SUCH CASES SETTLED AMICABLY: SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court ruled that criminal proceedings in serious crimes like mental depravity or offences such as murder, rape, dacoity and financial fraud can’t be quashed even if parties settle dispute amicably as such offences are not private in nature. The court passed this order while dismissing an appeal filed by four persons seeking quashing of the FIR against them for allegedly grabbing land on the basis of forged documents in Gujarat.

LAW SOON TO CURB MARRIAGE OF GIRLS TO OLDER ARAB MEN

The Telangana government is mulling tabling an ordinance or bill in the Legislative Assembly to bring about an end to marriage of girls to citizens of Arab countries. According to the minorities’ welfare department secretary Syed Omer Jaleel, a file has been circulated about the cases in which minor girls have been married to much older men from Arab countries. The file also contains a list of possible measures that can act as a deterrent if the bill is passed in the Assembly.

HYDERABAD HIGH COURT RELEASED FOUR LIFE OFFENDERS IN KHAMMAM DOUBLE MURDER CASE

The Hyderabad High Court has acquitted four life convicts in a double murder case that took place in Kalluru police station limits of Khammam district in February 2007. The bench suspected manipulation by the police on the behest of politicians to fix the accused. It directed the authorities to set the accused free on completion of official formalities.

THREE I-T OFFICERS BOOKED FOR HAVING ILLEGAL ASSETS

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has booked three Income Tax officials in a disproportionate assets case. According to the CBI, a couple working in the department Siddam Vijay Kumar, I-T officer of Range-1 in Ward-3 of Hyderabad, and his wife K Jyothi Kumari, office superintendent are in possession of Rs 2.29 crore worth of assets, and another I-T officer T Murali Krishna Rao was also booked for amassing `73.03 lakh illegal assets.
