MURDER MOTIVE NEEDS TO BE PROVED FOR CONVICTION OF AN ACCUSED: HYDERABAD HIGH COURT

The Hyderabad High Court said that a murder accused is entitled to benefit of doubt if the prosecution fails to establish the links in the chain of circumstances, namely, the motive and participation of the accused in the commission of an offence through circumstantial evidence, and held that all the accused were entitled to benefit of doubt, and set aside the conviction of the main accused in a murder case who sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life by a fast-track court in Visakhapatnam.

POLICE BUSTED FAKE JOB RACKET AND ARRESTED SIX PERSONS

The Hyderabad city police have busted an inter-state job racket by arresting six persons involved in cheating over 50 job seekers of 2 crore by promising them jobs in SBI, IT and Railways and other government departments. The police also seized Rs 12 lakh cash, rubber stamps, mobile phones and fake appointment letters from them.

MAN ARRESTED FOR SHARING PRIVATE PICTURES OF HIS FRIEND TO DEFAME HIM

An engineering student was arrested by the Jawaharnagar (Hyderabad) police for sharing the private pictures of his friend with a woman and spread rumours about him. He wanted to defame his friend by spreading rumours. A case has been registered under section 354 (c) and 324 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

TWO PERSONS ARRESTED FOR CIRCULATING INTIMATE PHOTOS OF A WOMAN

The Cyberabad Cyber-crime police arrested two persons, a youth and a student for uploading nude pictures and videos of a woman on porn websites. The complaint was filed by the victim’s mother.

CBI FILED CHARGE SHEET IN NIRAV MODI CASE, NAMES PNB EX-CHIEF, SENIOR OFFICIALS

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted a chargesheet in the Rs 13,400-crore PNB scam in a special court, where it mentioned charges against 22 people including absconding billionaire jeweller Nirav Modi, his brother Nishal Modi and the bank’s former chief Usha Ananthasubramanian, who is now Allahabad bank CEO and MD.

ONLY 5-10% OF SEXUAL ASSAULT VICTIMS GET COMPENSATION: NALSA TOLD SUPREME COURT

National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) told the Supreme Court that hardly 5-10 per cent sexual assault victims across the country were getting compensation under the relevant schemes in various states. NALSA told a bench comprising Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta that as per the available data of Andhra Pradesh, out of 901 cases lodged last year, only one victim has received compensation.

SUPREME COURT TRANSFERRED KATHUA RAPE AND MURDER CASE TO PUNJAB’S PATHANKOT COURT

The Supreme Court transferred the Kathua gang rape and murder case outside Jammu and Kashmir to Pathankot in Punjab even as it ruled out a CBI probe. A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra ordered an in-camera hearing of the case and said the trial should be conducted on a day-to-day basis to avoid delay.

FAKE JOB RACKET BUSTED IN HYDERABAD, POLICE ARRESTED ARMY OFFICER, SIX OTHERS

The Hyderabad city police busted a fake job racket and arrested seven persons, including a Lance Naik posted at the Golconda artillery centre. The police revealed that the accused duped more than 30 job-seekers from the city and Meerut of Uttar Pradesh of nearly ₹25 lakh by promising them jobs in the Indian Army, Air Force, railways and multinational companies.

MADRASA TEACHER ARRESTED FOR SEXUALLY EXPLOITING MINOR STUDENTS

Rehman Ansari, an Arabic teacher working at a madrasa (Islamic school) in Asifnagar (Hyderabad) was arrested by the police for allegedly sexually abusing students for the last three months. A case was registered under Section 377(unnatural sex), 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code and Section 5 & 6 of POCSO Act.

SUPREME COURT TERMED KILLING OF HIMACHAL OFFICER AS EXTREMELY SERIOUS AND TOOK SUO MOTU COGNISANCE

The Supreme Court took suo motu cognisance of the killing of an assistant town planning officer during a court-ordered anti-encroachment drive in Himachal Pradesh’s Kasauli. The court pulled up the Himachal Pradesh authorities for failing to ensure safety of officers implementing its orders.

POLICE ARRESTED A MAN UNDER NEWLY AMENDED POCSO ACT IN MAHABUBABAD

The Narsimhulapet (Mahabubabad District) police arrested a youth for allegedly raping a three-year-old girl. The police registered a case under the recently amended Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), Nirbhaya Act and Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (Punishment for rape).

SUPREME COURT ASKED ALL HIGH COURTS TO FAST-TRACK POCSO CASES

The Supreme Court issued a slew of directions to all the High Courts of the country regarding trial in sexual assault cases involving children. The Bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra directed all High Courts to ensure that the cases of sexual assault of children to be fast-tracked and decided by special courts. The court passed this order on a writ petition filed by advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava seeking a direction for expeditious disposal of such cases.
