CBI BOOKED FORMER AIRCEL PROMOTER SIVASANKARAN, TOP BANKERS FOR CHEATING THE IDBI BANK TO THE TUNE OF ₹600 CRORE

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said it has registered a criminal case against 15 former senior officials of IDBI Bank and 24 others, including Aircel founder C Sivasankaran and 11 companies and their respective directors, for allegedly defrauding the lender to the tune of Rs 600 crore.

A PRIVATE SCHOOL TEACHER BOOKED UNDER POCSO ACT FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING A BOY

The Cyberabad police registered an FIR and nabbed a WhatsApp group admin for posting that he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The group admin, a 29-yearold private school teacher from Kukatpally had created the WhatsApp group, a couple of years ago.

‘SELF-STYLED GODMAN’ ASARAM GOT LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING TEEN IN ASHRAM

A Jodhpur court convicted self-styled godman Asaram of raping a teenager in August 2013 and sentenced him to life in prison until death, the maximum punishment prescribed by the law for the offence. The court also convicted two other accused, Shilpi and Sharatchandra, and sentenced them to 20 years in jail.

CABINET APPROVED FUGITIVE ECONOMIC OFFENDERS ORDINANCE, FOR SEIZING PROPERTIES OF ECONOMIC OFFENDERS

The Union Cabinet approved a proposal to promulgate the Fugitive Economic Offenders Ordinance 2018 that provides for seizing properties and assets of economic offenders like loan defaulters who flee the country. The provisions of the ordinance will apply to economic offenders who have left the country to avoid facing prosecution, or refuse to return to face prosecution, persons against whom an arrest warrant has been issued for a scheduled offence, as well as wilful bank loan defaulters with outstanding of over Rs 100 crore.

UNION CABINET CLEARED ORDINANCE FOR STRICTER PUNISHMENT FOR RAPE OF A GIRL BELOW 12 YEARS

The Union Cabinet approved ordinance to award death penalty to those convicted of raping children up to 12 years of age. The officials said that there will also be no provision for anticipatory bail for a person accused of rape or gang rape of a girl under 16 years. In case of rape of a girl under 16 years, minimum punishment has been increased from 10 years to 20 years, which is extendable to life imprisonment. In case of gang-rape of a girl below 12 years, punishment will be life imprisonment or death sentence.

CENTRE LIKELY TO BRING ORDINANCE TO AWARD DEATH PENALTY FOR RAPING CHILDREN UP TO 12 YEARS

Following a nationwide uproar over the rape of two minors in Kathua and Unnao, the Union Cabinet said that it could take a decision on bringing an Ordinance to amend the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act to provide for the death penalty for the rape of children below the age of 12 years.

HYDERABAD HIGH COURT SENTENCED LIFE IMPRISONMENT TO A MAN FOR RAPE AND MURDER OF A FIVE-YEAR-OLD GIRL

Hyderabad High Court upheld life conviction on a person who brutally killed a five-year-old after raping her in Toopran police station limits in 2011. The Court made this observation while dismissing an appeal filed by G Bikshapathi challenging a lower court judgment in convicting and sentencing him to life imprisonment for rape and murder of a five-year-old girl.

HYDERABAD POLICE ARRESTED THREE PERSONS IN CONNECTION WITH CONDUCTING ILLEGAL ABORTION AT THEIR NURSING HOME

Saidabad Police arrested three persons including two women in connection with female foeticide incident that took place in Gayatri Nursing Home. The police said that the Hyderabad High Court directed the police to register cases and asked them to carry out investigation.

CAN'T MONITOR PUNJAB NATIONAL BANK (PNB) FRAUD PROBE, WILL DECIDE ON PIL'S MAINTAINABILITY: SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court made it clear that it cannot monitor the ongoing probe into the over Rs 11,000 crore Punjab National Bank fraud case and said it would first decide whether a PIL seeking a court-monitored SIT probe into the scam was maintainable or not.

JAGTIAL (TELANGANA) JUNIOR CIVIL JUDGE HELD ON CHARGE OF SEEKING BRIBE

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Karimnagar registered a case of criminal misconduct against Jagtial additional junior civil judge S. Madhu on the directions of the High Court. The bureau officials arrested the judge after a search of his house. The Bar Council of Jagtial had lodged a complaint against the judge. Advocates of Jagtial in a complaint with the High Court had levelled corruption charges against Madhu.

FORMER PUNJAB NATIONAL BANK MANAGER SENTENCED TO 7 YEARS OF RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT (RI) IN DISPROPORTIONATE ASSETS CASE

A Central Bureau of India (CBI) court in Hyderabad sentenced a former branch manager of Punjab National Bank to seven years rigorous imprisonment for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, and also imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh on him.
